Ben Shelton’s girlfriend and Washington Spirit star Trinity Rodman expressed her excitement upon learning that teammate Tara Rudd had extended her stay with the team by signing a contract through 2028. Rodman’s reaction came after she had earlier expressed sadness over her good friend and teammate Croix Bethune leaving the Spirit to sign with the Kansas City Current for a $1 million transfer deal.
Rudd, a former Trojans athlete, plays as a center half and was drafted by the Spirit in the same year as Rodman (2021). The duo have been good friends ever since and have also been part of the Spirit teams that reached the NWSL finals in 2024 and 2025.
Sharing the news of Rudd’s contract extension on her Instagram story, Rodman wrote, “Yay, my Tara is staying.”

Rodman herself boosted her star with the Spirit by signing a massive contract extension in January, making her the highest-paid women’s soccer player in the world. The contract runs through 2028, with an option for one more year and an astounding $2 million salary.
While Rodman works her magic on the field, off it, she just doesn’t showcase love and support for her teammates, but also for her loved ones, especially Ben Shelton. Rodman always tries to watch his matches in person, and most recently was on center court for his Dallas Open final against fellow American Taylor Fritz on Sunday.
Trinity Rodman Celebrates Ben Shelton’s Dallas Open Triumph With Warm Embrace
A day after spending a romantic Valentine’s Day, Rodman witnessed Shelton beat Fritz in three competitive sets to win his first ATP title of the season. Since Andy Roddick, Shelton has been the only American to win more than two titles over ATP 250 level.
After sealing his thrilling come-from-behind win in the Dallas Open final, Shelton jogged towards the players’ box to embrace his loved ones, including Rodman, who had a hilarious reaction upon hugging him.
Previously, Rodman accompanied Shelton to Auckland, New Zealand, for the ASB Classic, but couldn’t extend her stay down under for the Australian Open due to the USWNT training camp.
With a thrilling win in Dallas, Shelton will aim to carry this positive to Acapulco for the Mexican Open starting on February 23.
