As Ben Shelton fought Casper Ruud for a spot in the Australian Open quarterfinals on Tuesday, the American’s girlfriend, Trinity Rodman, stayed awake for the match in the US, where the sun had yet to rise.
Shelton lost the first set but bounced back to defeat 12th seed Ruud 3-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-4 in two hours and 36 minutes at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne. The eighth-seeded American won 83% of his first-serve points and 97% of the net points, while hitting 55 winners and breaking Ruud’s serve thrice.
Meanwhile, Rodman, who represents the Washington Spirit in the National Women’s Soccer League and the United States national team, posted a TikTok video during the match. She was lying on her bed in a room with the lights off, and there was a laptop next to her, showing Shelton’s match. She wrote:
“Never in my life did I think I’d be watching tennis at 3:46 am.”

Former NBA player Dennis Rodman’s daughter, Trinity, and Shelton have been reportedly dating since March 2025. She accompanied the World No. 7 to the ASB Classic in Auckland earlier this month and even arrived in Melbourne. However, Rodman left a day before the Australian Open began.
Back home in the US, she signed a three-year, $2 million-per-year deal with the Washington Spirit, making her the world’s highest-paid female soccer player, according to her agent, Mike Senkowski.
Ben Shelton To Face Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open QF
Ben Shelton will face arguably his biggest challenge in the quarterfinals in the form of the two-time defending champion, Jannik Sinner. This will be the 10th tour-level meeting between the two players, with the Italian leading the head-to-head 8-1.
In last year’s Australian Open semifinal, Sinner defeated Shelton in straight sets. However, the American believes he has significantly improved. At a press conference after his fourth-round win, Shelton said (via Reuters):
“I think my game is a lot different. I think the way that I’m executing, one, at the net is going to be a huge advantage to me. I think the way that I’m mixing things up from the baseline is a lot different than a year ago. For the most part, since I’ve been here, I’ve never hit my forehand this good. I feel like I have great control. I feel like I’m hitting it bigger than I’ve ever hit it.”
The match will be played at the Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday, January 28.
