Andy Roddick Makes Bold Prediction About Victoria Mboko’s Future As Canadian Gears Up For Miami Open

Former World No. 1 and 2003 US Open champion Andy Roddick made a bold prediction about teenage sensation Victoria Mboko as she gets ready to start her journey at the Miami Open. Roddick’s comments came during the latest episode of the Served podcast, where the American went out of his way to say that Mboko is going to win a Major in the near future.

“[Victoria] Mboko’s going to win a slam the next two years. I just needed to say it out loud. She plays well every week. She plays well. She’s going to be in a position. So we talk about Sabalenka… She lost earlier, but she’s in position every single tournament now. Mboko’s obviously not there yet, but if you take this break out last year, spottier out of the gates this year, she’s making the quarters or better in every single event,” Roddick said.

“She gets through tough three-set matches all the time, and she starts flipping those, and you know, turns those three-set wins into four and fours, which she will. You know she’s only been on the main tour for like 8 months. She plays well every single week. Like losing to Sabalenka, yeah, that doesn’t bother me at all. But she’s just building. She’s physically strong, right? She can kind of withstood the stress test of big tennis,” he added.

“So, I’m just more and more impressed with her, the way she goes about it. She doesn’t have to play great to win matches. She’s really good at. Like, I might not play well in the first, second, or third round, but I’m still here in the quarters. Those are big things for a young player. So I just wanted to say that out loud. You know, I mean, maybe give me till like the end of 2028. But I think she will win a Major,” Roddick concluded.

Victoria Mboko to Begin Her Quest at the Miami Open Against Anna Blinkova

Mboko will commence her journey at the Miami Open with a second-round match against Anna Blinkova on Wednesday. The tenth-seed will look to make light work of her opponent and progress to the next round, with tougher challenges ahead. The Canadian has been placed in the bottom half of the main draw.

Mboko could face Anna Kalinskaya in the third round and then face an unseeded player in the round of 16, making life easier momentarily. The teenager could potentially face World No. 2 Iga Swiatek in the quarterfinals and, subsequently, either Amanda Anisimova, Mirra Andreeva, Coco Gauff, or some other surprising face in the semis.

If Mboko should reach the summit clash, then she could face any of the top seeds placed in the top half of the main draw.
