Andre Agassi recently shared his bold opinions about Jannik Sinner and his team after his French Open heartbreaking upset. The former tennis player took a dig at the team, suggesting new practices for the Italian.
Sinner opened his French Open run on Wednesday, May 27, where he met Clement Tabur in the first round and produced an impressive performance, registering a straight-sets (6-1, 6-3, 6-4) victory. In the second round, he locked horns with Juan Manuel Cerundolo, and this did not pan out as expected, as the world No. 1, who was the heavy favorite of the tournament, suffered an early exit after his opponent’s 3-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 victory.
This upset came as a shock to the entire tennis community, as according to predictions, there were high chances of the Italian not even losing a set and he went home early after facing a sudden illness on the court. Days after this loss, Agassi in his recent conversation with TNT Sports expressed his frustration over Sinner and his team. Stating that his team needs to focus on what needs to change as the same issue is recurring with the player. Stating what the problem might be and suggesting solutions for the same by drawing from his experience, he said:
“They’re so scientific these days about their preps, about their recoveries, about all that. I’m sure he has, you know, a staff of doctors and people, but I mean, repeating the same thing twice and expecting different results is, that’s where I call a little Yahtzee on all of it. I mean, he needs to, he needs to figure out what to change. He may need to bring somebody in. It’s got to be some form of hydration issue. I mean, I know before I went out there in Australia and played in the 3 out of 5 in hot conditions, I’m doing 1012 litres of water,” said Andre Agassi.
He added:
“Within 24 hours of that match plus my carb ratio 4 to 1 protein over carbs, you know, that, that sort of deal, recovery drink a little differently, but you have to force it. It’s better to have it in you and not need it than to need it and not have it, and I’d question his intake and if he’s doing it, if he’s doing it properly. I mean, I just, I just would. I know nothing about his preparation. I know he can play for 5.5 hours. He’s proven it. I know he’s the best player on the planet right now, but I also know that there’s no excuse for him to run into a wall at 1 hour 45.”
Jannik Sinner revealed the health concerns he struggled with while competing in the French Open’s second round
After suffering an early loss at the French Open, Jannik Sinner sat for his post-match press conference, where he made his feelings known about his loss, revealing the health issues he faced during the showdown. Stating that he didn’t feel good on the court, he said that he struggled to serve after the second set. Lauding his opponent for his game, he said that he started to feel dizzy during the match and felt low on energy.
“Didn’t feel very well on court, but can happen. Was in a good spot, you know, also third set, but I couldn’t couldn’t serve it out and then uh struggled quite a bit. But yeah also congrats to him. I don’t want to take I don’t want to take anything away from him. Played a very solid match especially also in the end and that’s the sport,” said Jannik Sinner.
He added:
“Yeah, struggled, starting to feel very dizzy. Very low of energy and tried to to serve it out, but didn’t have a lot of energy. Fourth set, I let it go a little bit trying to have a bit more energy in the fifth. Very important game. tThe first one couldn’t hold and then it went all a bit downwards but yeah woke up this morning didn’t feel very well and tried to keep the the points very short also in the beginning I was hitting very clean very good and and then I just kind of hit the wall and that’s it.”
