Victoria Mboko and Stefanos Tsitsipas headline Day 2 action at the 2026 Adelaide International. Both players will take to court for their respective second-round encounters on Tuesday.
Besides, the likes of Sofia Kenin and Tomas Machac will also be in action. They take on home hopes Maya Joint and James Duckworth, respectively. Here, we take a look at the prospects of the top names in fray:
Victoria Mboko vs Anna Kalinskaya
Victoria Mboko came into 2026 after a breakthrough season last year. She jumped over 300 spots in the world ranking and even captured a WTA 1000 title on home soil in Montreal.
This year, she has gone 1-1 at the United Cup, beating Zhu Lin but falling to Elise Mertens. She has already picked up a battling win over Beatriz Haddad Maia in Adelaide and will be high on confidence.
For Anna Kalinskaya, 2025 was a mixed year as she battled fitness issues but she will has played well in her few matches at the start of the new season. She pushed Jessica Pegula to three sets in Brisbane and will could well put pressure on the Canadian with her big hitting. Both women employ and aggressive approach on court, but Mboko’s stronger serve should give her a slight edge.
Prediction: Mboko in three sets
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Alexander Vukic
Stefanos Tsitsipas will open his Adelaide campaign against home favorite Alexander Vukic. The Greek made a solid start to 2026 with wins over Shintaro Mochizuki, Billy Harris and top-10 opponent Taylor Fritz.
Vukic, meanwhile, had made a first-round exit at Brisbane but has steadied the ship with two wins in the Adelaide qualifiers. That said, the recent results hint at Tsitsipas rediscovering his mojo after a roungh 12 months. If he can play at the level he showcased at the United Cup, he should be able to come through unscathed.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in straight sets
Tomas Machac vs James Duckworth
Tomas Machac has built a solid portfolio over the last couple of seasons, reaching two finals (winning the ATP 500 title in Mexico last year) and will look to further bolster his standing. He suffered a tight loss to compatriot Jiri Lehecka in Brisbane but bounce back as he takes on local wildcard James Duckworth.
The Aussie is a seasoned campaigner but most of his success has come on the lower-rung Challenger and ITF circuits. He will have the backing of the home crowd, but if Machac can play with restraint and not give away too many free points in form of errors, he should be able to get the win.
Prediction: Machac in straight sets
Sofia Kenin vs Maya Joint
Sofia Kenin had a resurgent 2025 season after a poor few years on Tour. She reached the Charleston final last year and returned to the top-30 of the world rankings. The American began her 2026 with 1-1 result in Brisbane, falling to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the Brisbane second round.
In the form of Maya Joint though, she faces a tricky first opponent in Adelaide. The Aussie showcased her remarkable all-court game during title runs on multiple surfaces (clay and grass) last year. She will look to savor playing in front of her home crowd and could surprise Kenin with her characteristic combination of variety and powerful groundstrokes.
Prediction: Joint in three sets
