With the Class of 2026 commits secured, the recruitment battle now goes to the Class of 2027, and so far, Texas A&M is leading the way. Mike Elko’s coaching staff has been busy on the recruitment front, as the Aggies now have the No. 1 2027 recruiting class at this point of the year. They now have six five-star recruits, 11 four-star recruits and nine three-star recruits.
This should give the Aggies a young core for the 2027 season, and On3’s J.D. Pickell believes that Texas A&M would be a scary team when that time finally comes, as he discussed the team taking On3’s No. 1 spot in the recruitment rankings.
“Having the top-ranked class, to me, Josh, should be scary for the rest of the SEC and for the rest of college football,” he said. (2:22)
Co-host Josh Newberg then praised head coach Mike Elko for being a “great evaluator” when it comes to recruiting, as it shows in his recruitment of the No. 1 class for 2027 so far. Newberg added that Elko has had a lot of experience in recruiting, going back to his days at Bowling Green.
Texas A&M has been continuing to hold on to that top recruitment spot, with its latest commitment being four-star Don Bosco Prep (New Jersey) linebacker Mikahi Allen, who committed to the program on Saturday. He is ranked No. 201 nationally and is the No. 17 linebacker from the class, so this is a big recruitment win for the Aggies.
Recruitment for the class is still ongoing, so the Aggies could still land a few more big players or even flip a few more from other schools.
Texas A&M Also a Favorite to Land No. 2 Class of 2028 QB
Mike Elko and the Texas A&M Aggies are also looking ahead to the Class of 2028, and they are even considered favorites for the class’ No. 2 quarterback, Donald Tabron II. The team has been recruiting him early, and many believe he could commit early to the program.
The quarterback has reportedly spoken highly of the program, and he has been described as having an elite arm and can read opposing defenses well, so he could be a good player to recruit for the Aggies, especially with their stacked Class of 2027 crop from the year before.
