Colorado Buffaloes and soon-to-be NFL draftee, quarterback Shedeur Sanders spoke about criticism regarding his throwing technique.
Shedeur Sanders Remains Confident in His Technique Ahead of NFL Draft
Confidence runs deep in the Sanders family.
Deion Sanders had loads of it during his 14-year NFL career and continues to show it as the head coach of Colorado. So for his son, quarterback Shedeur, to have confidence in himself is no surprise.
Following his Pro Day workout in the Buffaloes’ training facility on April 4, questions arose about Sanders’ mechanics. Analysts observed that, at times, his mechanics didn’t look as they did during the season.
Additionally, on nearly every throw Sanders patted the ball — a known quarterback no-no, despite seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady famously patting the ball as well as several other accomplished NFL passers.
Sanders was asked about the criticism he received following his Pro Day during an appearance on the Up & Adams Show with sports personality Kay Adams.
“Me patting the ball got me to the position I am now,” he shot back. “I don’t see what’s wrong.”
He’s not off base, as he did throw for 4,134 yards and 37 touchdowns in his senior season with the Buffaloes. After winning just four games the season prior, Sanders was one of the leading catalysts behind a 9-4 2024 campaign.
Those performances have put him in position to be a potential top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL draft.
Early in the draft process, it was considered a toss-up between him and Miami’s Cam Ward for who would be the top-rated quarterback. While Ward has seemingly run away with that honor, Sanders remains a talented passer who many believe can be a good starter at the pro level.

Sanders continued, revealing the pressure placed upon him that isn’t on anyone else.
“You know for me, things can be a problem, but for other people it’s not a problem,” Sanders lamented. “They always move the goalposts for me so that’s why mentally you gotta always be tough with everything that there is, because you can never seek validation or seek happiness through outside people. You gotta find it within yourself and you gotta not really care what everybody has to say.”
