“Set The Bar High”: Ryan Day’s OSU Recruiting Target Makes Feelings Known Ahead Of Georgia Visit

Ryan Day’s Ohio State Buckeyes hosted five-star defensive lineman Marcus Fakatou in Columbus over the weekend. Fakatou really appreciated the warm welcome he received from OSU coaches, including defensive coordinator Matt Patricia.

While Fakatou may not have announced his decision, the momentum seems to be with the Buckeyes, even though his Georgia visit is not that far.

After wrapping up his first official visit in Columbus, Fakatou shared his thoughts on it and what it means for his visits to Athens and Texas next.

“It was, as I said, it’s my first OV, so I kind of didn’t know what to expect walking in,” Fakatou said. “So, they kind of, I don’t want to say set the bar high, but they kind of set the tone for the OV season. So, it’s going to be good to compare and contrast with other colleges.

“This just makes me more excited to go out and see what else other colleges have to offer and everything. Like Georgia, I know they be doing a lot of activities with their players and stuff, so I know that’s going to be good, too. Texas, I heard Texas is a little bit of both, so I can’t wait for that one. I mean, we’re not done yet. This is just day one. But overall, for day one, I think it was a pretty good day.”

Fakatou ranks among the best DL prospects nationally. He plays at Sierra Canyon School in California and has drawn interest from nearly every major program.

Marcus Fakatou Almost Committed to Ryan Day’s Ohio State

Marcus Fakatou was highly impressed with Ohio State’s staff and culture. According to Rivals’ Adam Gorney, the trip went so well that the defensive lineman briefly considered committing shortly after the visit on Wednesday.

The 6-foot-7, 275-pounder is ranked No. 31 nationally, No. 2 at his position and No. 3 in California. According to industry consensus via On3, Ohio State currently sits in the prime position to land his commitment with a 92.5% chance.

Ohio State is battling schools like the Oregon Ducks, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and Georgia Bulldogs for his commitment.

It remains to be seen whether Fakatou’s next lined-up visits to major schools give any ideas about his commitment decision.
