The Miami Hurricanes registered a 31-27 win against the Ole Miss Rebels in the Fiesta Bowl matchup. After going neck to neck for the first three quarters, the Hurricanes peaked at the right time and qualified for the national championship final.
The Hurricanes had several ups and downs throughout the game. From terrible throws to lack of game control, at times, they didn’t look like a team playing for a spot in the finals. Still, it ended up working out well.
However, there was a controversial moment, according to some fans, toward the end of the game. Some fans thought a Miami defender bumped or impeded the Ole Miss receiver before the ball arrived, which should be DPI if it prevented a fair chance to catch the ball.
While the outrage on social media couldn’t change the outcome of the game, fans continued to express their frustration over poor officiating. They blamed the refs for making favorable decisions for the Hurricanes.
“That was PI lol,” a fan wrote.
“Nice missed PI and false start to favor Miami lmfao,” a fan wrote.
“Big ten refs at their finest that was clear DPI on the last play,” a fan wrote.
“Missed holding on the Miami tuddy and missed PI on the last play of the game,” a fan wrote.
“No PI on that last play is crazy work,” a fan wrote.
“No pi on the last play ?” a fan wrote.
Whether the game officials miss an important call or whether it could have changed the outcome of the game is up for debate. As of now, the reality is that the Miami Hurricanes are going to play for the national championship.
Who Will the Miami Hurricanes Play in the CFP Championship?
The Miami Hurricanes, after qualifying for the final, will now have to wait for less than 24 hours to find out who they will face for the national title. Their opposition will be decided in the Indiana vs Oregon Peach Bowl game in Atlanta. The final will be played on January 19 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida.
While the controversy around an alleged missed PI is going to sting for the Ole Miss Rebels fans, their journey to the CFP semifinal has been something to marvel at. They had started the season strong with Lane Kiffin as their head coach.
When their playoff spot was guaranteed, Kiffin left for LSU, and for a moment, it felt like the Rebels’ season would derail after that. However, they registered back-to-back wins and qualified for the semifinal.
