Rece Davis Minces No Words While Discussing the Future of Lee Corso’s Iconic Mascot Head Tradition Following Retirement

Lee Corso is one of the most recognizable people in the college football world. Corso has been an analyst on the College GameDay panel for decades, but in April, he announced that he is retiring from broadcasting. He will make his final appearance in Week 1 of the 2025 college football season for a game between the Texas Longhorns and Ohio State Buckeyes.

It was not a surprise to hear that Corso made the decision to retire. The legendary broadcaster will be 90 by the time next season starts and has already struggled to appear consistently in recent seasons. This past season, Corso missed several weeks of the season because of personal issues.

With Corso retiring, the College GameDay broadcast will likely change. One concern among fans is who will carry on the mascot headgear tradition with Corso gone. Corso would often put on the mascot headgear for the team he picked to win the game. It was a fun tradition, but it sounds like it will not continue with Lee Corso retiring.

On Friday, the Sbe College Football Instagram account posted a quote from the College GameDay Podcast where analyst Rece Davis spoke about continuing the mascot headgear tradition with Corso gone.

“No one is going to put on headgear ever again,” Davis said.

    He then jokingly added:

“I will form tackle somebody that tries to take the Corso headgear.”>

Rece Davis has been a member of the College GameDay broadcast team since 2015.

Lee Corso Will Try To Add One More Correct Pick to His Impressive College GameDay Prediction Record

While Lee Corso has announced his retirement, he will make one farewell appearance on College GameDay next season. He will be on the show for its Week 1 broadcast for the Texas vs. Ohio State matchup. The game will pit two 2025 national championship contenders against each other in their season debuts.

Lee Corso has amassed an impressive record when predicting games on College GameDay. After the 2024 season, his total record came to 286-144, making the correct prediction 66.5% of the time.

Corso has been a staple of the college football world since before he started his broadcasting career. He was a coach for the Louisville Cardinals from 1969 to 1972. Then, after leaving the team, he coached the Indiana Hoosiers from 1973 to 1982. Corso coached his final season of college football in 1984 with the Northern Illinois Huskies.
