NCAA Track and Field Championships 2026 Set to Start on Time After Hayward Field Bomb Threat

The NCAA Track and Field Championships 2026 recently received a bomb threat that forced a complete stadium evacuation on June 9, 2026, at the University of Oregon’s historic Hayward Field. The championship is now all set to take place after a thorough security scanning by the police department.

The NCAA Track and Field Championships are scheduled to commence on June 10, 2026, and will conclude on June 13. Just a day before the start of the championship, a bomb threat was called in via telephone on Tuesday, June 9. The collegiate teams and athletes practicing in the stadium were immediately evacuated, and failsafe automated fire alarms echoed through the facility urging everyone to clear the field.

A pre-meet NCAA news conference scheduled for June 9 was officially canceled, and the athletes had to finish their preparations at alternative venues like nearby South Eugene High School. Following a thorough 2.5-hour multi-agency sweep involving the University of Oregon Police Department, officials from the Eugene Police Department, and Lane County Sheriff’s Office, nothing of concern was found.

The NCAA Track and Field Championships’ officials shared the all-clear announcement on X, stating that the championships are all set to take place. Along with this, they also opened up about enhancing security at the event.

“Following a threat made to the facility on Tuesday, the University of Oregon Police Department gave the all clear for Hayward Field this afternoon following a comprehensive sweep and safety review of the facility. The facility will be closed for the remainder of the day. Teams competing in the Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships have received a revised practice schedule for Wednesday morning. All events in the championship are scheduled to start on time on Wednesday as well,” wrote the NCAA officials.

    They added:

“The University of Oregon Police Department will work with the University of Oregon Athletics Department, the Division I Men’s and Women’s Oversight Committee and NCAA staff to enhance security for the rest of the Division I Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championships. We would like to thank local law enforcement for the swift response today and look forward to a successful championship for the student-athletes, coaches and fans.”
