Letsile Tebogo Mocks USA’s Controversial World Relays No-Show

Letsile Tebogo shared a statement, mocking Team USA shortly after they withdrew from the World Athletics Relays in Botswana. The tournament is slated for May 2 to 3, 2026, at the Botswana National Stadium.

USA Track and Field has announced that they will be skipping the men’s and women’s 4x400m event at the World Relays in Botswana because of the lack of interest from top-tier athletes. The officials stated that the high travel costs of sending B or C team athletes have led to the decision of withdrawal. They said they are now focused on making better use of the resources.

Shortly after the announcement, Tebogo mocked Team USA for their decision, referring to their showdown against each other at the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. After a head-to-head showdown, Botswana edged out the USA after Collen Kebinatshipi executed a strategic last leg, besting the American runner in the last 80m.

They stood atop the podium after clocking 2:57.76, with the USA in the second position after recording 2:57.83. Recalling this triumph over them, the Olympic champion shared a bold statement on X, writing:

“First, we took the 4×400 gold right out of their hands in Tokyo last year. Now, they’re unable to show up to the 2026 World Relays in our own backyard? 😹😹” wrote Letsile Tebogo.

With their win in Tokyo, they became the first African nation to win the men’s 4x400m relay title on the world stage.

Letsile Tebogo Makes Feelings Known alAbout Winning the 4x400m Relay at the 2025 World Championships

After defeating Team USA with a narrow margin in the men’s 4x400m relay at the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo, Letsile Tebogo spoke to World Athletics, where he weighed in on his journey and the historical team at the event. Crediting his team for the feat, he said that it was all teamwork and they did it for the supporters of Botswana.

“Once we get into the team, it’s only one personality. The teamwork that we have, the mentality that we have when we are going into the 4x400m – now it’s teamwork. We’re doing all this for the country, for everybody who’s watching and in support of Botswana,” said Letsile Tebogo.

He further made his feelings known about the win, stating that he will always cherish this moment. Along with this, he also highlighted how his team helped him through his 100m and 200m losses and the injuries he suffered in the season.

“It’s something that I’ll always look back on and cherish. I’m forever grateful for my teammates, for the confidence that they gave me. They boosted me into stepping up because it was just more of a horrible season for me. The injuries that we had during that season, we had too many starts and stops. After what happened in the 100m, in the 200m where you know you had true potential to bring up a medal and it didn’t happen, the confidence went downhill, but they managed to pull it back up the hill again.”

Letsile Tebogo was disqualified from the 100m at the World Championships for a false start. He handled the situation maturely and walked off the track.
