Gretchen Walsh And Kate Douglass Lead Wishes for Virginia’s Anna Moesch After Blasting No. 2 Time in 100m Freestyle History

Anna Moesch recently produced a historic performance at the AP Race London International 2026 in the women’s 100m freestyle race. Her feat garnered the attention of the swimmers, Gretchen Walsh and Kate Douglass, who lauded her achievements.

The AP Race London International 2026 was held from May 23 to 25 at the London Aquatics Centre in the United Kingdom. On the last day of this tournament, Moesch etched her name in history books by setting an American record in the 100m freestyle, recording a time of 51.94s. With this win, she is now the No. 2 performer of all-time and is now just 0.23 seconds away from surpassing the world record.

In addition to this, she also nabbed two more gold medals in the 50m freestyle, where she clocked 24.27 seconds and in the 200m freestyle, where she posted 1:55.81. She also anchored the USA’s 4x100m medley relay to gold. The 29-year-old was named the top athlete on the Aquatints leaderboard with 986 points and also became the AP Race champion.

Shortly after this championship, she received appreciation from the 100m butterfly world record holder Gretchen Walsh and Olympian Kate Douglass. The latter took to her Instagram story and reposted usaswimanddive’s post of her 100m performance. Commending her performance, she wrote:

Anna Moesch made her feelings known about making history in the 800m freestyle at the 2026 NCAA Swimming Championships

In March 2026, Anna Moesch competed at the 2026 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta. On March 18, she anchored the University of Virginia’s 800-yard freestyle ready with an impressive speed of 1:39.03, which was the fastest 200-yard freestyle split in history.

Following this win, she spoke to the media, where she opened up about her performance, stating it had boosted their confidence for the upcoming events. Revealing how she and her team were nervous, she said:

“I think one of our biggest goals going to this meet was having those two relays to start us off and we were all super nervous. Um we all felt nervous for the two medley even though we weren’t even in it. And then we all were nervous for our eight free and I think all that adrenaline helped us a lot and I think it makes us super excited going to the next few days and yeah I think it’s good momentum for us,” said Anna Moesch.
    She added:
“We kind of talked about throughout the season maybe having some people double in that relay and so being able to go into both relays and just having so many options of people who could do so amazing in it is something really special to us and I think it’s all something we’re really proud of.”
