Shortly after winning the 2026 NCAA Wrestling Championships, Penn State wrestling coach Cael Sanderson shared his team’s impressive stats on social media. He dropped the season’s stats after getting backlash for his ‘follow the rules’ comment, shading his rivals.
Penn State has solidified its position in the wrestling world once again with its dominating performance in the national championships. Delivering stellar performances, the team secured its fifth consecutive NCAA title with a total score of 181.5 points. The second and third positions were secured by Oklahoma and Nebraska, respectively.
Sanderson recently shared the team’s impressive stats on X, exuding pride in its achievements. From winning five NCAA titles to the NCAA Championship scoring record to four straight Big Champion titles to outscoring dual opponents, he shared it all. Expressing gratitude, he wrote:
“#AlwaysGratefulNeverStaisfied.”
This came shortly after he received backlash for his ‘follow the rules’ comment. Days after the NCAA win, he highlighted his team’s work ethic and shaded the rivals, saying his team works every day and follows the rules.
“You know, we’re a blessed program. We follow the rules, right? There’s not a lot of that going on right now, and that’s one of the reasons, you know, we can sleep when the wind blows,” Sanderson said.
Cael Sanderson Made His Feelings Known About Seeing His Athletes Win Their First National Championship
After Penn State emerged victorious at the NCAA Wrestling Championships 2026, Cael Sanderson, with Luke Lilledahl, sat for a post-meet press conference. One of the reporters asked him what it was like watching one of his athletes win their first national championship.
He shared an emotional response, saying he enjoys seeing athletes’ parents. He relates to them, as he also has a son who wrestles.
“It’s awesome. I actually like seeing their parents, too, and I can see them in the back right now. It’s such a cool thing. I mean, I have a son who wrestles. And every one of these kids feels like they’re your own son. So when you see them be successful, it’s really awesome. Obviously, when they aren’t as successful, it hurts a lot. But, yeah, seeing them win a national championship is really, really cool,” said Cael Sanderson.
Before the NCAA Wrestling Championships, Sanderson revealed how Penn State peaks for Big Ten and NCAA Championships despite late-season fatigue.
