Ole Miss DT Walter Nolen Could Be Top-10 Sensation — Or Second‑Round Steal

Walter Nolen, a dominant defensive tackle prospect, made a name for himself with standout seasons at Texas A&M and Ole Miss. The Memphis native began his career at Texas A&M in 2022 as the top recruit in his class, earning 66 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks over two seasons.

After transferring to Ole Miss in 2024, Nolen became an All-American, leading a defense that set school records with 52 sacks and 120 tackles for loss. This year, he posted 48 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and more in 13 games, earning first-team All-SEC honors. With numbers like that, many are wondering: is he worth a top-10 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft?

Could Walter Nolen Be a Top-10 Pick in the 2025 NFL Draft?

During Senior Bowl Week, Ole Miss DT prospect Walter Nolen didn’t hold back in an interview with The Draft Network.

“I’m the next Aaron Donald, man. I feel like I can do it all. Aaron Donald did it all at the highest level,” he confidently said. “I’m a younger, upcoming version of Aaron Donald. I just can’t wait to show everybody that when I get this opportunity I’m being blessed with.”

Confidence is an important trait for a young defensive lineman. It’s especially crucial at the next level, where the competition is tough. Nolen’s strong self-belief shows that he’s ready for the challenge, even though it will take time and hard work to reach the level of a player like Aaron Donald.

He’ll need to keep improving and showing up consistently to make that happen.

One reason Nolen might possibly drop to the second round is due to off-field concerns, particularly his decision to skip workouts at the NFL Combine. Instead of participating in the Combine, Nolen opted to showcase his skills at his Pro Day, which raised some eyebrows among NFL teams.

Some interpreted this as a lack of commitment or transparency, though Nolen clarified that the decision was made to put his best foot forward. The choice to skip Combine workouts has fueled speculation about his character and work ethic, with some teams reportedly removing him from their draft boards entirely.

Despite the off-field concerns, Nolen’s talent on the field is undeniable. His ability to disrupt the game with his strength, speed, and versatility makes him a first-round caliber prospect. While questions surrounding his commitment may linger, there’s no doubt that when it comes to talent, Nolen has the tools to be a game-changer at the next level.
