Curt Cignetti has developed a reputation as a transfer portal master, with many of the biggest pieces of his national championship-winning roster coming from other colleges. However, his recruiting prowess shouldn’t be ignored, with the college football coach snagging a big addition in wide receiver Branden Sharpe.
Sharpe thanked 247 Sports for giving him a four-star rating in an X post on Wednesday. The post contained a screenshot of his profile, seemingly taken on his phone. He tagged multiple media members, his high school and the publication.
“Thank you 247Sports for labeling me as a 4🌟 receiver and the 34th best receiver in the country. Still more work to be done💯‼️” he posted.
Sharpe had received interest from many schools, including Vanderbilt, Cincinnati, Houston and Virginia Tech. However, Cignetti secured Sharpe’s commitment on May 18.
Sharpe, from Brownsburg, Indiana, picked the local program with the Hoosiers in Bloomington, Indiana. The location made the job easier for Cignetti, but with plenty of other schools interested in the wide receiver prospect, his addition wasn’t guaranteed, especially with Fernando Mendoza now out the door.
Branden Sharpe Leads Robust 2027 Commitment Class
While Branden Sharpe is arguably the biggest recruit Curt Cignetti has landed for 2027, he is far from the only notable addition. According to 247 Sports, Cignetti has secured 11 hard commitments from players, including six offensive players and five defensive players. Cignetti landed two wide receivers, a quarterback, two offensive linemen and a running back.
Defensively, Cignetti received commitments from two edge pass rushers, a linebacker and two safeties. The breakdown suggests that Cignetti was looking to keep things relatively balanced, but with slightly more emphasis on the offensive side of the ball as things currently stand.
