The Philadelphia Flyers had one of the worst starts possible in their Round 2 series of the 2026 NHL Playoffs. The Carolina Hurricanes overpowered the Flyers in Game 1, handing them a blowout loss with a total score of 3-0.
The Hurricanes have been in excellent form this season, finishing their regular season 2nd in the overall league. They even achieved a clean sweep in their Round 1 against the Ottawa Senators, winning 4-0. Carolina was also able to carry it into Game 1 of Round 2, giving them a much-needed early lead.
The second faceoff between them and the Flyers is all set to take place on Monday, May 4. Interestingly, the second game will also be held at the Lenovo Center, giving the Hurricanes home ice advantage. The pucks for the game are all set to be dropped at 7 p.m. ET, and fans who want to watch it can do so on the following channels:
- TV Channel: ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2
- Streaming Platforms: DIRECTV, Fubo, ESPN App, Hulu, and Max
- Radio: 97.5 The Fanatic
The Hurricanes’ layoff time since Round 1 had a significant role in their success in Round 2. The squad has over a week to spare, which seemed to be adequate time for minor injuries to heal. Furthermore, the team rested well and came into Round 2 better prepared than the Flyers, who had only a two-day break between rounds.
The Flyers faced the Pittsburgh Penguins in Round 1, and it was a really tight series. While Philadelphia dominated early on to take a 3-0 lead, they needed three more games to seal the series win. Their fourth triumph came in Game 6, bringing the series to 4-2.
The Flyers’ HC argued that the team was not mentally prepared for Round 2

Following the devastating loss to the Hurricanes, Philadelphia’s head coach, Rick Tocchet, discussed the team’s current perspective. He claimed that after winning Round 1 of the series, the squad did not have time to return to Earth. Tocchet suggested that this could be the reason why the team was not mentally prepared to face Carolina.
According to Sports Philadelphia, Rick Tocchet stated,
“I don’t know if we were mentally prepared to play tonight. Winning our playoff series … there was a lot of excitement. I don’t think we got down to earth quickly enough for this game.”
Tocchet also went on to add,
“There were plays to be made; we didn’t make them. That’s really what it comes down to. It’s a good baptism for how some of our players are going to have to play. We’re going to have to play with some quickness and reactionary time. That’s how you have to play against this team.”
Game 2 can be an excellent opportunity for the Flyers to make a comeback in the series. Even after that, they will play two games in a row at home, giving them a chance to regain momentum.
