The Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres are in a pretty tight series up to this point. Both teams had a difficult first round in this year’s NHL Playoffs, but following that, both teams have managed to carry their momentum into the Eastern Conference Round 2.

The clubs have played two games in the series and are currently tied at one game apiece. Interestingly, both games took place at the KeyBank Center, Buffalo’s home arena. This indicates that despite not having home ice advantage, the Canadiens put up a great fight, particularly in Game 2, which they dominated and won.

The third faceoff between them is set to take place at the Centre Bell, giving Montreal a much-needed home ice advantage. The game will take place on Sunday, May 10, with puck drop at 7 PM ET. For those who want to watch the game from home, here are the channels that will air it:

    • TV Channel: ABC, ESPN, or ESPN2
    • Streaming Platforms: DIRECTV, Fubo, ESPN App, Hulu, and Max

The Sabres were able to get the early edge in the series by winning Game 1 by a total score of 4–2. They demonstrated excellent teamwork on the field, which helped them earn the edge. Compared to that, Game 2 was a complete disaster for them, as the Canadiens controlled the momentum for the majority of the game.

Montreal finished the game with a big lead of 5-1. Alex Newhook was once again the main performer in this game, scoring twice to assist his team in taking a commanding lead. He carried his form well, as previously in these playoffs, he helped his team defeat the Lightning by scoring the final goal in Game 7.

After losing Game 1, Montreal’s head coach, Martin St. Louis, was sure that the team could rebound. He discussed the team’s last year’s playoff exit in the postgame interview after Game 2, suggesting that the team is now taking on every game as a separate one and not as a part of the series.

According to the NHL website, Louis stated,

“We’ve learned a lot from last year, and I think we’ve grown. … I’m proud of the response. I’m not surprised. We’re going to start over (in) Game 3, but every game has its own story, every series has its own story, and you can’t dictate the story. You’ve just got to keep writing. Rewrite if you don’t like it.”

Alex Newhook, the Canadiens’ MVP of Game 2, also talked about the team’s performance, noting that the club knew what they needed to do to rebound. He stated,

“I think as a group we knew we needed a big effort tonight, a bounce-back, a bounce-forward game (after a 4-2 loss in Game 1). … I think throughout the lineup, a lot of good games. I think we were able to roll through our lines and deliver a pretty solid effort, and it was a pretty big game here in Game 2.”

The Canadiens will have a significant home ice advantage in the next two games as Game 3 and Game 4 are going to take place at the Centre Bell, and that can help them get the series lead.
