Why Was Cam Newton’s Show Cancelled? Looking Into the Disaster That Was ‘106 & Sports’

According to NFL insider Dov Kleiman, Cam Newton’s 106 & Sports show was canceled by BET+ after just eight episodes.

It was a weekly sports-and-culture talk show on BET, which Newton hosted with Ashley Nicole Moss. Inspired by the legacy of 106 & Park, the show included athlete interviews, commentary, and culture-driven segments. Former NBA G League star and recording artist LiAngelo “Gelo” Ball, NBA great Gary Payton and WWE superstar Bianca Belair were some of the guests on the show.

Why Was Cam Newton’s Show Cancelled?

According to Kleiman, the show was widely regarded as “terrible” by fans.

The cancellation came during a period of executive turnover and a shift in programming strategy at BET following leadership changes. The new leadership thought in favor of using the resources in other shows and cultural storytelling.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, poor ratings and lackluster social media appeal were major reasons behind the cancellation of the show.

The show was produced by Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and his agent Maverick Carter through their company, The SpringHill Company. The first episode was aired on Oct 15th, 2025.

Cam Newton Walks Back on His Criticism of Drake Maye

For most of the 2025 season until Super Bowl LX, Cam Newton has called Drake Maye’s New England Patriots “fool’s gold.” During his appearance on ESPN’s “First Take,” Newton dismissed the Patriots’ advances, saying they had an easy schedule and stellar defense rather than their quarterback.

Maye buffed his comments, saying it doesn’t bother them. However, when the time came, he fumbled his way in Super Bowl LX loss against the Seattle Seahawks. He threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in the 29-13 loss.

Despite that, Newton walked back on his criticism of Maye and said it was not a failed season.

“Contrary to what people may believe about my relationship or how I feel about Drake Maye, I’m extremely proud of how he handled himself throughout the whole season. Drake Maye, message to you. I will allow myself, if I’m you, to feel every emotion of this game,” Newton said on ESPN’s First Take.

“Are you disappointed? You should be. But understand this, this game wasn’t just on what you did. …This season was not a failure. You made leaps, strides and bounds to becoming an MVP candidate. …It is only the beginning, not the end.”

It appears Newton has softened his approach against Maye.
