“Long Term Investment”: NFL Analyst Reacts As Patrick Mahomes Signs $504M Contract Extension With Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes has broken several NFL records over his decade-long career, but the on-field dominance isn’t enough for arguably the greatest quarterback of his era. Mahomes is also dominating the league in career earnings.

The three-time Super Bowl champion, who has played for the Kansas City Chiefs his entire career, recently signed a historic contract extension deal with the franchise.

The contract extension, now valued at over $504 million, is record-breaking, making him the first NFL athlete with a contract worth over half a billion dollars, and has sparked several discussions.

During a recent appearance on ESPN, Tim Hasselbeck said that the Chiefs have made a smart move by securing their long-term future.

“This is a long-term investment,” he said. “He is the most valuable piece of their franchise. I think it’s wise to be smart.”

Hasselbeck said plenty of players have bounced back from serious injuries, and Mahomes will be able to do the same. In his opinion, the Chiefs have a great medical staff who will ensure their superstar gets the necessary attention and is ready for the next season.

Hasselbeck believes that the Chiefs shouldn’t rush him back on the field and should allow Mahomes to be fully prepared for his first game. He said that they should avoid the first four games, which will give Mahomes enough time to be ready.

In the first four weeks, the Chiefs are slated to play the Broncos, the Colts, the Dolphins, and the Raiders.

As far as his recovery is concerned, Mahomes has made great progress and is on track to play for the franchise by the end of this year.

    Patrick Mahomes’ Contract Extension Breakdown

In 2020, Mahomes signed a 10-year, $450 million contract with the Chiefs. Despite last season’s disappointment and suffering a torn ACL at the age of 30, Mahomes has added two more years to his Chiefs contract.

The restructured deal is now valued at $504.75 million, and with potential incentives, it could go up to $522 million. Mahomes will now be tied to the Chiefs until the 2033 season; he will be 38 years old then.

“He has helped lead our franchise to five Super Bowl appearances and three championships, he has been instrumental in shaping the Chiefs brand and putting Kansas City on the world stage, and on top of it all, he has been an outstanding role model,” Chiefs chairman Clark Hunt said, as per the BBC.

Hunt said Mahomes is a “generational talent,” and he is excited to see him continue to lead the franchise.
