Ryan Clark Makes Feelings Very Clear On Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s Paternity Leave Leading To Minnesota Firing

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah was hired by the Minnesota Vikings as their general manager in 2022. He had previously served two other NFL franchises in a career that spanned over a decade in managerial or executive roles.

In May 2025, Adofo-Mensah signed a multi-year extension deal with the Vikings. It seemed like he was going to be in Minnesota for a long time. Then, on January 30 this year, the Vikings shocked everyone with their decision to fire him.

Adofo-Mensah’s firing has become a topic of discussion over the last few days as more details continue to surface. There’s a narrative around his firing that ties the paternity leave that he took to the decision made by the franchise.

Recently, Ryan Clark talked about the ongoing narrative about the former Vikings GM. Clark stated that the narrative is unfair and that his firing shouldn’t be tied to his taking paternity leave to be with his wife and kids.

“I don’t believe that’s why he was fired,” Clark said. “People saying he was fired for being a good father, for being a husband. That’s exactly what he was supposed to be. He’s supposed to be there for his wife, who went through a difficult pregnancy and birth, and be able to bond with his child.”

Ryan outlined a harsh reality in the world of football. People are applauded for making sacrifices and losing out on invaluable family time and moments, when in reality, those sacrifices hold no real value.

“When Joe Brady stands up, and he cried, and he talks about his wife’s sacrifice and missing the birth of a child because he coached a game, you get respect in the locker room for that,” Ryan added.

He stated that there are myths. Unfortunately, a lot of people believe that the special and difficult moments, when one should be with their families, shouldn’t be prioritized over football.

Kwesi Adofo-Mensah Was Going to Get Fired Anyway

Ryan applauded the decision Adofo-Mensah made in the interest of his family. Being with his wife at that time is exactly what one should do. He pushed back on the narratives that since he’s a man with wealth and means, he could’ve figured out another way.

“Maybe for him, he couldn’t do it the way he wanted to do it, and I’m glad he chose his family because they would fire him anyway, whether he did that or not,” Ryan said.

Ryan believes that the Vikings already had a lot of problems going on inside their camp, with the team’s performance, draft picks, etc., so they were going to fire Adofo-Mensah regardless. In this case, he didn’t lose out on a very special moment with his family.

Still, connecting the two separate incidents is where Ryan has a problem with the ongoing narrative. He thinks they shouldn’t be linked as it paints a bad picture not just for Adofo-Mensah, but for the franchise as well.
