Fernando Mendoza’s mind is certainly on the national championship game against the Miami Hurricanes this Monday night, but Tom Brady and the Las Vegas Raiders already seem to be thinking about his future.
The 2025 Heisman Trophy winner is the favorite to become this year’s first overall pick of the NFL Draft, and with Dante Moore’s decision to stay at Oregon for another year, Mendoza doesn’t really have any competition for that spot.
Queue in the Raiders and Brady. The Las Vegas franchise holds the first overall pick of the 2026 NFL Draft, after a disappointing season under Pete Carroll.
Brady is a minority owner in the team, and it’s been heavily reported that he will be involved in the team’s scouting and decision-making process for the Raiders’ next quarterback.
So, it should be no surprise that the legendary Patriots quarterback and team owner, Mark Davis, and general manager John Spytek are in attendance at Hard Rock Stadium this Monday to watch Mendoza attempt to lead the Indiana Hoosiers to their first-ever national title.
Fernando Mendoza is a Boyhood Fan of Tom Brady
It must be a great compliment to the Hoosiers quarterback that Tom Brady has seemingly taken time to evaluate him. Mendoza would certainly hope that the six-time Super Bowl champion sees some of himself in him. It’s no secret that Indiana’s signal-caller grew up a fan of the Patriots and Tom Brady.
Last December, the quarterback had this to say about his idol:
“My dream dinner guest is Tom Brady. He is someone I looked up to my whole life, and I really love not only his play on the field, but his resilience and the way that he has conducted himself throughout his career. I was actually born in Boston… and he has been a special role model for me and a special idol. My football role model to follow is always Tom Brady, as he has such resilience.”
Well, there’s every chance that Fernando Mendoza’s dream will come true this year. If he ends up with the Raiders, and it seems he will, he will likely see much more of Tom Brady than the sole dinner invitation. Idolizing could turn into actual mentorship.
