The New England Patriots are set to face the Seattle Seahawks in the 2026 NFL Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on Sunday.
With one of the biggest spectacles of sports set to take place later this week, sports analyst and commentator Stephen A. Smith has voiced his concern surrounding a potential threat that could mar the festivity around the bowl.
Whilst discussing the upcoming Super Bowl LX, Stephen A. Smith made his feelings clear about the Trump administration’s incessant deportation of immigrants via the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), highlighting his worry around the department ambushing the Super Bowl in California.
“I’m more concerned about our president and his administration and sending ICE to the Super Bowl”, Smith stated (0:00).
Whilst acknowledging the reports suggesting that ICE won’t be present at the Bowl, Smith hoped that there are no surprise agents at the venue. He also noted that the Super Bowl is not an apt time and place to carry a potential swarm.
“This is not the day for that. You know, you got 364 other days of the year to do that. You don’t do that for Super Bowl Sunday. It’s a big time celebration for the American public. It’s the biggest sporting event in America, bar none”, he further elaborated (0:35).
Despite sources pointing towards nil presence of ICE agents in and around Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara residents and officials have reportedly started preparing for the worst, with some inhabitants also showcasing fear as the bowl date approaches.
Donald Trump Confirms He Will Skip Super Bowl LX in California
During an interview with the New York Post, US President Donald Trump officially announced his plans on not attending Super Bowl LX in California.
While explaining his reason for skipping the bowl, Trump highlighted travelling and logistics as the primary reason behind his absence, calling Santa Clara “just too far away.”
While the official reason seems to just be logistics, a report from Trump’s aides suggests that the camp is afraid of the president being booed by the crowd, as occurred during the US Open and the FIFA Club World Cup final.
