The Kansas City Chiefs are just weeks away from reporting to training camp, and the main questions remain around their key players’ health status. Chiefs insider Charles Goldman identified a list of injuries that could shape the team’s preparations for the 2026 season.
Patrick Mahomes is making good progress after his ACL and LCL injuries from last season. According to recent reports, the star quarterback has already participated in individual drills and seven-on-seven work during the offseason, which puts him ahead of the expected rehabilitation timeline.
“Coach Andy Reid previously held him out of those drills specifically because he did not want to risk any collision on jet sweeps or backfield action, where players cross the formation and could swipe Mahomes’ legs. Those plays are all predicated on timing, and the Chiefs have to make sure that timing is right before Mahomes returns to full team work,” Charles Goldman tweeted.
Other Key Injury Concerns For Chiefs
Goldman also mentioned Mansoor Delane as another player who is worth watching. Delane suffered a shoulder injury in offseason and missed mandatory minicamp. The Chiefs remain optimistic that he will be ready once camp begins.
Wide receiver Rashee Rice is also making progress after undergoing a cleanup procedure on his surgically repaired knee. Goldman noted that Rice could avoid beginning camp on the Active/PUP list:
“Over the next several weeks, Rice will continue rehabbing to ensure he can participate at the start of training camp. There is a possibility he will not need to begin camp on the Active/PUP list and will be able to complete the team’s conditioning test.”
Meanwhile Omarr Norman-Lott faces uncertainity after tearing his ACL during the 2025 season. He missed the entire offseason program, and is viewed as a likely candidate to begin camp on the Active/PUP list.
Wide receiver Xavier Worthy remains under observation after playing through a torn shoulder labrum and ankle injury last season.
Felix Anudike-Uzomah, Jake Briningstool, Jaden Hicks, Wesley Bissainthe, John Michael Gyllenborg and Chris Roland-Wallace were the other stars who are dealing with health concerns entering camp.
Despite the lengthy injury list, the overall picture remains positive for Kansas City. Most of the team’s players are expected to participate in training camp, and will be all ready by the time 2026 NFL season starts.
