In a matter of a few days, Seattle Seahawks safety Nick Emmanwori will perform at the biggest stage, but her mother is unaware of how grand the stage of the Super Bowl is.
Emmanwori’s mother, Justina Emmanwori, will travel to San Francisco to attend son’s Super Bowl matchup against the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium. The Emmanwori family comes from Nigerian heritage.
In a recent interview with ABC, Emmanwori’s mother was asked about her expectations for the Big Game. Her reaction suggests that she doesn’t know how grand the Super Bowl event is.
“To be honest with you, I don’t know,” Justina said. “Everybody keeps asking me, ‘Do you know what they’re going for?’ I said, ‘Super Bowl.’ They said, ‘Do you know how many people died to go to the Super Bowl?’ I’m like, ‘How? I don’t know.’ I have the opportunity to go there, so I’m like, ‘Okay, maybe this is something big that I don’t know.’ It’s big. I don’t know what I’m expecting. All I’m going to do is shout, ‘Yeah! Super Bowl! Touchdown! We win!’ That’s it. That’s all I’m going to do.”
Fans reacted to Justina’s reaction on X:
“Nigerian mothers are the realest and truest, what they don’t know they don’t stress,” one fan wrote.
“Genuine reaction. Africans mother are the best 😆” one fan added.
“This is EVERY Nigerian mom who has a kid that plays football 😆” one fan wrote.
“Don’t blame her, Nigeria national sports is soccer,” one fan commented.
“Momma is definitely on a 3 days dry fasting, so her son’s team would win the Superbowl 😂” one fan commented.
“Ok now I understand why Nick loves soccer/football so much he’s first generation,” one fan added.
Nick Emmanwori Receives Positive Health Update Ahead of Super Bowl
Nick Emmawori picked up an ankle injury during Wednesday’s practice at San Jose State University while defending a pass. His injury became more concerning as he didn’t participate in practice on Thursday.
At the time, head coach Mike Macdonald said it was not a serious injury, but will take appropriate measures once they knew more. The safety spoke about the injury on Thursday, saying that when he landed while defending a pass, he rolled his ankle.
“It just kind of caught me off guard,” Emmanwori said Thursday. “Nobody really wants to get hurt or banged up during the Super Bowl week or any week like that. It just kind of caught me off guard.”
On Friday, the Seahawks released an encouraging injury report. Emmanwori’s name was absent as he was a full participant in Friday’s practice, meaning he’s gotten back fully healthy ahead of the Super Bowl on Sunday.
“No designation for Nick,” Macdonald said. “Turns out he’s alive.”
Emmanwori is an integral part of Seattle’s defense. In 14 games this season, the safety has recorded 81 tackles, 2 1/2 sacks, one interception and 11 pass breakups in the regular season.
