Shedeur Sanders’ journey with the Cleveland Browns has been full of ups and downs, starting with his drastic draft slide in the 2025 NFL draft, when he went from being projected to go in the first round to being picked 144th..
Sanders then had to wait a few games before he could show off his skills on the field; however, he performed better than many analysts expected in the seven games he started.
Now that Sanders is fighting Deshaun Watson for the starting quarterback position for the 2026 season, Browns reporter Tony Rizzo claimed about some conversations that are going on in the league about his availability during an interview on ESPN Cleveland on Monday.
Rizzo’s claim that the Browns don’t see Sanders as “the guy” for the franchise drew some reactions from fans.

Chad Johnson Says Deshaun Watson Has Six Weeks Before Shedeur Sanders Steals the Browns Starting Jobs
During Sunday’s episode of “Nightcap” on YouTube, Chad Johnson boldly said that he believes Deshaun Watson will be the starting quarterback for the Browns in the 2026 NFL season.
Johnson added that the starting job is Watson’s to lose; however, he predicted that the veteran player will only have six weeks to prove himself and meet the franchise’s requirements.
“If he’s not, Shedeur Sanders will fall in line as the backup and be the starter for the remainder of the season,” Johnson said. “If you’re not playing well, I thought it would be the six-week mark because you don’t want to lose too much of the season when you still have the chance to compete. At least play for something.”
The other host, Joe Johnson, disagreed with Chad’s prediction and added that football is a lot about finding your rhythm and timing, so Watson being on a six-week timer might not actually be the case.
