The Seattle Seahawks won the 2026 NFL Super Bowl after beating the New England Patriots. Now it appears they are willing to put their trust in the players who led them to the pinnacle, with reports suggesting a massive $32 million-per-year spend on cornerback Devon Witherspoon could be coming.
If the news from insider Ian Rapoport is to be believed, this would make Witherspoon one of, if not the highest-paid, cornerback in the NFL today. For reference, Trent McDuffie of the Los Angeles Rams currently earns $31 million per year and is the highest-paid CB at the moment.
Fans were quick to share their thoughts on the massive spend that could be taking place, with many suggesting it might not be worth it and one calling it a “massive mistake.”
What’s the Connection With Christian Gonzalez?
New England Patriots star Christian Gonzalez shares the same representation as Devon Witherspoon in Reggie Johnson, and with both players set for new deals, a new benchmark could be set.
According to Albert Breer on Sports Illustrated, “He (Reggie Johnson) is the agent to both the Seahawks’ Devon Witherspoon and the Patriots’ Christian Gonzalez, giving each of those guys a bit of a leg up in their negotiations with their teams—if you consider information to be power (and it is).”
It appears Witherspoon’s deal will be first to get done, with reports suggesting that Gonzalez could be next, but not before training camp begins.
