Is Lane Johnson Retiring? Eagles Star OT Announces Decision for 2026 Season

The Philadelphia Eagles, despite finishing their 2025 regular season with an overall record of 11-6, saw their campaign end after losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the wild card round.

Despite exiting the competition earlier than what they would have hoped for, the NFC East toppers saw their veteran offensive tackle Lane Johnson put in decent numbers before being sidelined for eight of the Eagles’ games courtesy of a foot injury.

The injury also prompted Johnson to think about potentially retiring from the NFL. However, it seems like the veteran OT will be back with the Eagles for another season.

Eagles reporter Jeff McLane has confirmed that the Philadelphia loyalist will once again feature for the Eagles for what will be his 14th season with the franchise. He was picked by the Eagles in the 2013 NFL draft in the very first round as their 4th overall pick.

Eagles’ 2025 Record Shows Clear Impact of Johnson’s Presence

Johnson, who is touted as a future Hall of Famer by many, will most definitely reinforce the Eagles as a whole, and the statistics too point towards it.

The 2025 season saw the Eagles go 8-2 in the presence of their veteran offensive tackle in contrast to a 3-4 record throughout the course of Johnson’s injury. Whenever Johnson has played for the Eagles, their success rate too tends to spike up, as they hold a 94-41-1 record in the presence of the future Hall of Famer. However, their success rate also goes down in the absence of the veteran OT, as the Eagles have lost a total of 27 games while only winning 15 in his absence.

With Johnson signing a one-year contract extension with the Philly-based side last March, he is officially set to be a part of the franchise till 2027, and it won’t be a surprise if he decides to stick around for longer.

Lane’s illustrious career has seen him garner two Super Bowl wins alongside six Pro Bowls and two first-team All-Pro selections.
