The NFL draft may already be over, but the Kansas City Chiefs had been busy in signing undrafted free agents left and right. The team has one of the most UDFAs signed ahead of the new season with a whopping 20 potential rookies. However, like many teams, only a few of them, often around only one or two, will be making it to the final roster.
Over 70 rookie tryout players are participating in the team’s rookie minicamp, and here are the 20 undrafted free agents:
- Duke EDGE Vincent “VJ” Anthony Jr.
- Miami LB Wesley Bissainthe
- Texas DT Cole Brevard
- Cincinnati WR Jeff Caldwell
- California WR Jacob De Jesus
- Toledo EDGE Anthony Dunn
- Washington WR Omari Evans
- Wyoming TE John Michael Gyllenborg
- Iowa EDGE Ethan Hurkett
- Colorado DT Amari McNeill
- Iowa S Xavier Nwankpa Louisville
- C Pete Nygra Oklahoma
- RB Jaydn Ott Michigan
- DT Damon Payne Louisiana-Monroe
- CB D’Arco Perkins-McAllister
- San Diego State CB Bryce Phillips
- Nebraska S DeShon Singleton
- Texas A&M RB EJ Smith
- LSU OG Josh Thompson
- Houston CB Zelmar Vedder
Cincinnati wide receiver Jeff Caldwell and Wyoming tight end John Michael Gyllenborg were seen as two of the must high-profile UDFA signings, though there are also some promising potential players such as Oklahoma RB Jaydn Ott, Texas DT Cole Brevard and Washington WR Omari Evans.
Kansas City Chiefs Executive Excited About Incoming Rookies and Undrafted Free Agents
With those 20 undrafted free agents being signed, in addition to the incoming drafted rookies, the Kansas City Chiefs now have 91 players on their roster. This means that some cuts will be made as the rookie camp continues and then the team would move on to training camp and then the preseason. Despite this sheer number of players, Chiefs Vice President of Player Personnel Ryne Nutt is still excited.
“I will talk about them as a class,” he said. “We’re very excited. We think this is going to be one of the better free agent classes we’ve had. They’re going to come in [and] they’re going to push. It doesn’t matter where you’re drafted or how you come into the Chiefs organization. It’s what you do to create value for yourself. We feel like there’s a lot of guys here that we’re going to bring in who are going to create value and are going to push some of the guys we have drafted, or some of the guys on our team.”
Despite the low odds of making it to the roster, these UDFAs are expected to try their best and make it through the final cut and maybe achieve their dreams of making it to the NFL.
