Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley can probably land a head coach gig this offseason, given the widespread interest and the interviews already lining up. Hafley has experience working as a head coach, referencing his stint with Boston College from 2020 to 2023, going 22-26 overall.
Hafley’s Packers head coach, Matt LaFleur, has full confidence in Hafley landing a head coach position since several teams could really use his services.
“I fully anticipate Halfley’s going to do a great job on the interview, and I fully anticipate him getting one of these,” LaFleur said. “I would be so happy for him, because he deserves it. He’s a great friend, a great man, a great coach. I’d hate to see him leave for us, but that’s what this business is all about. He’s earned those opportunities, so I’m excited for him in that regard. We’ll make sure we have a good plan.”
Where Could Jeff Hafley Land?
Jeff Hafley is currently in Tennessee for the Titans’ head coach job interview scheduled for Tuesday. According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Hafley will be busy this week as his interviews are scheduled with the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, Las Vegas Raiders and Miami Dolphins.
The New York Giants are also linked as the potential landing spot; however, their focus currently is more John Harbaugh-centric. Thus, there are at least four teams that are interested in Hafley as head coach.
Among all teams, the most interesting option would be the Titans, as they hold the 2025 first overall pick quarterback Cam Ward and they need someone of Hafley’s calibre to re-arrange their defense, starting with picking the right guy in the 2026 NFL draft, where they hold the fourth overall pick.
In 2025, Hafley helped the Packers hold down their opponents to an average score of just 21.2 points per game. However, the Packers’ defense did not do a good job in the wild-card playoff loss against the Chicago Bears. They couldn’t protect their 21-3 halftime lead, allowing 25 points in the fourth quarter.
It remains to be seen if Hafley’s interviews go well and we get to see him as head coach next season.
