Is James Cook III Playing Today Vs. Broncos? Status Update on Bills RB Ahead of NFL Divisional Round

The Buffalo Bills vs. Denver Broncos game is shaping up to be a quarterback battle between Josh Allen and Bo Nix, but if healthy, RB James Cook III could steal the show. The keyword here is healthy, as the Bills’ running back has had his dealings with injuries over the last few weeks. The question right now is, will he play on Saturday against the Broncos?

James Cook III, who had been injured late in the regular season, was spotted inside the medical tent back in Week 17. However, he was back in action on Week 18 and even secured the NFL’s rushing title during that game when he rushed for 112 yards in the first half.

He had not been injured since, as he also played in the Wild Card Round in that win against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coming into the Divisional Round showdown against the Broncos, he was not listed in the injury report, which means he will likely be playing and starting for the Bills. This is welcome news for Josh Allen and his crew, as Cook will be yet another weapon against the No. 1 team in the AFC.

While Josh Allen would be a threat in the passing game, James Cook III will be Buffalo’s biggest threat in the rushing game, so with both of them confirmed to play on Saturday, it seems that the Bills’ offense will be mostly intact.

James Cook III Gets Praise Form Sean McDermott For Winning NFL Rushing Title

Meanwhile, Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott was happy with his star running back’s individual accolade, winning the NFL rushing title, which is also known as the “Jim Brown Award.” He sounded off on his rusher’s individual success:

“I knew the number, and I stayed up to do everything I could to make sure it was going to go the way it was going to go — not that I had any control at that point,” the coach said.

“I was watching the (Ravens-Steelers) game, and you know, I’m praying that we made the right decision. And tell you what, it’s not easy. You expose him too long, and maybe he gets hurt, and you’re not loving it. So you try to do your best to keep him healthy, but also get him to a spot where he can kind of reap the fruits of his labor,” he added.

James Cook III rushed for 1,621 yards this season, beating the Baltimore Ravens’ Derrick Henry, who had 1,595 yards. He is the first Bills rushing champion in 49 years, the first since OJ Simpson.
