DJ Moore is heading elsewhere, and his time with the Chicago Bears is over. Moore, amid a sudden flurry of NFL activity, is heading east and jumping conferences. Moore is joining Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, serving as an additional piece in the team’s wide receiver room.
According to NFL insider Adam Schefter in a Thursday X post, the Bills traded a 2026 second-round pick and received Moore and a fifth-round pick in return. The move was far from a small transaction, which prompts the question of whether the wide receiver is good. Here’s a look at the receiver’s resume.
Why DJ Moore’s Production Has Declined
Put simply, Moore is good until proven otherwise.
The wide receiver has seen a troubling decline in production over the last three seasons, hinting at face value that he might not be good. However, the story is much more complicated.
Since the Bears picked up DJ Moore, the team has seen the addition of several more pieces, such as Colston Loveland, Luther Burden III and Rome Odunze. With only one ball to go around, it was inevitable that someone would be left out.
Moore was perhaps the biggest casualty of the influx of players. While the pattern is similar to a receiver in his 30s running out of gas, Moore’s age has nothing to do with it as he heads into an age 29 season.
How DJ Moore Will Fit Into Bills’ Receiver Room
DJ Moore was brought in to fix the team’s long-standing problem regarding a lack of star targets for Josh Allen in the passing game. Ever since the team moved on from Stefon Diggs, the unit has been viewed as an unbalanced offense with essentially only Allen’s legs and James Cook available to be consistently reliable.
With Moore in town and likely in line to compete for the starting role in 2026, the passing offense is expected to be better. However, at 29 years old, Moore’s addition doesn’t necessarily rule out future moves by the team this offseason.
It could be another trade or another significant wide receiver draft pick, but Moore could have another new teammate before May.
