The Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback battle between Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson is the one to watch this offseason.
With Todd Monken saying that they’re both starting-level quarterbacks, many analysts debate whether it should be Sanders or the veteran player who takes the steering wheel.
Talking about the situation on Sunday’s edition of “NightCap” on YouTube, Former NFL wide receiver Chad Johnson predicted that Watson has limited time to prove himself.
“Whether you’re a Cleveland Browns fan or not, Deshaun Watson is a starting quarterback for the Cleveland Browns.” Johnson said, “The job that Deshaun Watson is gonna get, Uncle Joe, it is his job to lose. He has six weeks. I guarantee you, listen to me now. I’m telling you I’m calling it right now, Uncle Joe. He has six weeks to ensure the team plays above or better than whatever the expectations are for that team and that quarterback. If he’s not, Shedeur Sanders will fall in line as the backup and be the starter for the remainder of the season.”
Joe Johnson reacted to Chad’s prediction and said he doesn’t believe Watson had just six weeks, since football is largely about finding your rhythm, timing, and consistency.
Colin Cowherd Makes Bold Shedeur Sanders Prediction Ahead of the 2026 Season
Colin Cowherd spoke about his thoughts on Shedeur Sanders last week and admitted that while he thinks the former Colorado star is a bit silly and immature for his taste, he believes the young quarterback can help his franchise win games.
“I think you can win games with Shedeur. I think Cleveland, the last couple of years, has aced the draft, and I think they’re going to win games this year. Not two or three. Six, seven, or eight. I really believe that. I think Shedeur can play. It’s a hill I’m going to die on. This is gonna become Tebow except a guy can actually win games. I’ll throw this out there for the doubters. Shedeur started the final seven games last year for Cleveland, and their offensive line was putrid. It was ranked 31st. He had more touchdown passes in that stretch than Josh Allen.” Herd highlighted.
The Browns selected Sanders with the 144th pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, the young quarterback who finished the season with an overall record of 3-4, 7 touchdowns, 10 interceptions, and 1,400 passing yards.
