The New York Giants are searching for a new head coach and former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh is considered a strong candidate for the role. Harbaugh was fired by the Ravens following the 26-24 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, ending his tenure in Baltimore after 18 seasons.
According to NFL insider Gary Myers, the Giants are prepared to move quickly toward an offer for Harbaugh. He explained how the Giants have already taken the lead in the NFL coaching carousel by moving up the timeline.
“The Giants are positioned to immediately offer John Harbaugh their head coaching position at their expected meeting this week because they have fulfilled the Rooney Rule requirements with two in-person interviews with minority candidate last week: Former Falcons head coach Raheem Morris and former Raiders head coach and Giants Super Bowl captain linebacker Antonio Pierce,” Myers wrote on X. “That could give New York a timing advantage over the competition.”
As per the Rooney Rule, the NFL franchise must conduct in-person interviews with minority candidates before hiring. By interviewing former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris and former Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce, the Giants have checked that box. In his message, Myers spoke highly about Pierce, saying he should at least be on the coaching staff.
“If Pierce, who, according to @Ian_OConnor, had an impressive interview Friday, does not get the Giants job or another head coaching job, the new Giants coach would be wise to include Pierce on his staff. He’s one of the smartest players I’ve been around and great leader,” Myers added.
Giants Among the Top Teams Linked to John Harbaugh
John Harbaugh’s coaching talents have received approval from even the president of the United States of America. The Giants are reportedly the leading franchise to land Harbaugh.
Giants GM Joe Schoen has reportedly been in direct contact with Harbaugh and there is interest on both sides. The Giants are expected to be on the shortlist of Harbaugh, who said he will limit interviews to just 3-4 franchises. With the meeting scheduled this week, a signing looks imminent.
The Giants have already shared why they are the best team for any top head coach, given the presence of rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who has achieved quite the notoriety with his performance in 2025.
