The NFL actually has multiple Rookie of the Year awards, with the first one, the 2025 Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year, going to New Orleans Saints rookie Tyler Shough. This is the fan-voted award, with the actual NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year being awarded during the NFL Honors in San Francisco later tonight.
With the Saints playing badly this season, being one of the worst teams in the league, this award immediately had a lot of fans begin clowning on Tyler Shough, making fun of him being chosen by fans on social media.
“lost against playoff teams btw,” one fan pointed out.
“Yeah bc the official one belongs to Jaxson Dart,” another X user predicted.
“Saints fans voting Shough ROY like: “We finally won something this year!” 😂” joked one person.
“Tyler Shough went from a draft pick that was widely mocked to being voted Pepsi Zero Sugar NFL Rookie of the Year. Not sure if he wins Offensive Rookie of the Year tonight at the NFL Honors ceremony but there’s no question Shough has turned a lot of skeptics into believers.,” one sports reporter tweeted.
“WHO DAT NEEDED THIS?! 😤 Tyler Shough goes from mocked draft pick → Pepsi Zero Sugar ROY fan vote champ → now the city’s hoping he sweeps the real AP award tonight. From backup to believer. Saints fans carried him there. Tonight we find out if the writers caught up,” said one fan.
Tyler Shough Releases Statement After Winning Fan-Voted Rookie of the Year Award
After the award, Tyler Shough released a statement and said he is humbled with the honor.
“I am truly humbled and honored to be chosen for this award,” he stated. “Coming in as a rookie, my goal was to do anything I could to contribute to our team’s success. Whatever I was asked to do, I just wanted to help the team. This wouldn’t be possible without all of my teammates and coaches giving everything they had each and every week to help us win. This award is truly a reflection of all of their hard work.”
In the fan vote, he defeated Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart, Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson, Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty, Panthers wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, and Browns linebacker Carson Schwesinger.
