Travis Kelce made many Chiefs fans happy after he announced his decision to come back for the 2026 NFL season, which will be his 14th year in the league.
Many analysts thought Kelce’s run as a Chiefs star had run its course after the franchise missed its spot in the Playoffs in 2025, but the 37-year-old TE has decided to potentially give his career a better ending.
Kelce’s ex-teammate, Tyrran Matthieu, spoke about Kelce’s decision not to retire after the 2025 season and came up with a hilarious reason behind the return.
“I think for some guys, bro, like I think it means a lot to them to be able to walk away as a quote-unquote winner. And then too, bro, I think with Travis, it’s, you know, he’s given that program a lot. He’s given us the city a lot. Um, you know, probably one of the most like in community guys on the team, you know, he does a lot of stuff in the community. It’s that’s hard to walk away from sometimes, you know. So uh and his wife always busy.”
“So you know. He got to find some [ __ ] to do, right? you know, like can’t [ __ ] just trail her all the rest of his life. You know, you got be still act like he got a job. But yeah, I think I think he I think this year I think he’ll come back rejuvenated, recharged, and I think he’ll try to definitely uh you know, end it on a high note.”
Travis Kelce Opens Up About Taylor Swift’s Role in His Decision to Come Back
During a recent conversation with Pat McAfee on his show, Travis Kelce opened up about how his fiancée, Taylor Swift, helped him decide to come back for another year.
Kelce shared that something that is common between him and his to-be-wife is that they love what they do.
He also mentioned how it’s inspirational to see Swift write about new things and discover new melodies after so many years in her career, and also finding joy in it.
The Chiefs star further shared that Swift motivated him by continuing to do what she does in terms of her career in music, which also motivated him to say to himself that he is “not done either”
