South Carolina Gamecocks head coach Dawn Staley entered Sunday’s matchup wearing Seattle Seahawks rookie safety Nick Emmanwori’s jersey. She showcased the support for Emmanwori while making way into Colonial Life Arena, Columbia.
Emmanwori will take the field at Levi’s Stadium for Super Bowl LX against the New England Patriots. He played college football at South Carolina before being drafted by the Seahawks in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
By coming out wearing Emmanwori’s jersey, Staley has shown where her loyalties lie in the upcoming Big Game. Some of her Gamecocks players were also wearing Seahawks jerseys while coming out to play against the Tennessee Volunteers at home.
During his time with South Carolina, Emmanwori started as a true freshman in 2022 and recorded a team-high 78 tackles and was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. He was selected to the All-SEC first team in his junior season and was picked as a first-team All-American by the Associated Press.
When Nick Emmanwori was drafted into the NFL, Dawn Staley publicly celebrated his achievement.
“Yeah yeah yeah NICK!!! @Eman7Nick Let ‘em know and go HAWKS!” she wrote on social media.
Emmanwori’s girlfriend, Raven Johnson, is part of Staley’s Gamecocks roster.
Nick Emmanwori’s Mother Justina Unaware About Super Bowl Hype
Nick Emmanwori’s mother, Justina, who is from Nigeria, traveled to California this week to witness her son represent the Seahawks in their game against the New England Patriots on Sunday in Super Bowl LX.
During her conversation with a reporter, Justina seems to be unaware of the Super Bowl hype.
“Maybe this is something big that I don’t know,” Emmanwori told Noah Chast of Columbia, South Carolina’s ABC 25. “It’s big. I don’t know what I’m expecting. All I’m going there for is to shout, ‘Yay, Super Bowl! Touchdown! We win!'”
When the Seahawks drafted Nick Emmanwori, Justina was sure Seattle would go to the Super Bowl.
“I told God, as long as my son is in Washington, the Seahawks will never lose a game,” she told Chast before the season. “And they keep going. They will never lose because Nicholas is there. They are going to the Super Bowl.”
Justina will now hope that Nick Emmanwori helps deliver for Seattle and lift the Lombardi Trophy.
