The New York Jets and starting guard Joe Tippmann agreed on a four-year, $66.4 million extension on Monday, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport’s sources. The deal includes $34.9 million guaranteed.
Tippmann was picked in the second round of the 2023 NFL draft. The Wisconsin native has since played 48 games both at center and guard. Tippmann, who was entering the last year of his rookie contract, has become a core player for New York in the last two years at the right guard position.
Tippmann has become the NFL’s 15th-highest-paid guard, considering his $15.5 million average per year.
Fans had mixed reactions to this extension. Some cracked jokes given the Jets’ struggles lately, while some mentioned it was a good move.
“Jets overpaying anybody these days,” one fan wrote.
“They are meticulously building a team just watch how they mess it up,” another commented.
“Agreeing to 4 more years of depression can’t be good for the mental,” one fan reacted.
“Why would a person genuinely ever sign with the Jets 😭 unless your from their or smth,” one fan noted.
“The Jets are quietly building a nice roster. Can’t wait to see how they screw it up!” one fan joked.
“Congrats to Joe! He was drafted as a center but kicked over to guard last season & did well. Has been a starter his whole career on the OLine & the Jets seem to want him around long term at RG mainly,” one fan remarked.
This was the second core player the Jets extended recently, after running back Breece Hall secured a three-year extension worth $45.75 million.
Jets Might Be On To Something With Great Roster Moves Since Last Year
The Jets may not immediately contend for the Super Bowl, but they are putting the pieces in place to make them a championship team in a matter of a few years.
After bottoming out at 3-14 in 2025, the front office leaned into a full reset. Their strategy is getting clearer, especially after the latest move. Instead of putting their weight behind veterans, GM Darren Mougey and coach Aaron Glenn are starting to put their trust in young contributors like guard Joe Tippmann and RB Breece Hall.
Last year, they extended key players like wide receiver Garrett Wilson, cornerback Sauce Gardner, tight end Jeremy Ruckert and center Josh Myers. Gardner was, however, traded to Indianapolis.
Their latest extension to Tippmann ensures that every one of the Jets’ offensive starters from last season is under contract till 2027 at least.
