The Chicago Bears are having a tough time at Soldier Field against their divisional rivals, the Green Bay Packers. Matt LaFleur’s team leads 21-6 halfway through the third quarter. Someone who hasn’t found his rhythm tonight is Caleb Williams, who has only thrown for 171 passing yards and hasn’t found the endzone yet.
A moment of particular tension for the Bears came early in the second quarter, when their drive came to an end with an interception after Caleb Williams tried to throw to wide receiver Luther Burden. Williams’ frustration was plenty evident. Fans online didn’t like his reaction.
“Franchise QB or not melting down on 4th down tells me the pressure’s already winning,” said an annoyed fan.
“Caleb is not clutch and doesn’t know how to compose himself under pressure, especially in the playoffs,” claimed one fan.
“The guy is one of the biggest cry babies in football,” wrote another person.
Maybe this is on Ben Johnson?
“Tell your head coach stop passing every play & run the ball,” said another person.
Maybe it was the wide receiver who was at fault.
“That one is on Luther Burden. Saw it a few times at Mizzou. Assumes the ball is going somewhere else & quits on the route. You saw Caleb yelling at him immediately after the pick,” explained an angry fan.
“Not sure what he’s upset about. He threw a perfect spiral right to the intended target it seemed,” said someone else.
“That pick was on the route, not Caleb. Wrong leverage read by the WR,” explained another fan.
Some empathized with the Bears quarterback.
“Well it’s not what you wanna do so I understand that lol,” said one fan.
Caleb Williams Admits He Had a Difficult Relationship in the Preseason With Head Coach Ben Johnson
The 2025 preseason was somewhat difficult for Caleb Williams. After all, he was drafted by Matt Eberflus, who was fired near the end of his rookie season, and this year, Williams had to get used to head coach Ben Johnson’s ways.
In an article published this week by ESPN, Williams admitted that his relationship with Johnson at the start was fragile.
“At certain parts, it felt like our relationship was pretty fra-gee-lay [fragile], from my perspective,” Williams said. “It was like, gee, this dude, doesn’t seem like he likes me.”
Fragility gave way to admiration, with Williams wearing his coach’s high school football shirt at one point this season. And it seems Johnson’s ways worked, as the Bears made the postseason in Williams’s sophomore season.
