“Let Him Rot”: Fans Give Up On Brandon Aiyuk As 49ers WR Remains AWOL Amid Trade Rumors

The San Francisco 49ers have been trying to trade Brandon Aiyuk, and so far, they’ve only been disappointed. The 28-year-old wide receiver was the first round, 25th overall pick by the 49ers in the 2020 NFL Draft.

In August 2024, Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million contract extension with the 49ers. He only played seven games in that season as he tore his ACL and MCL during a game against the Chiefs and was ruled out for the rest of the season.

These injuries aren’t uncommon anymore in the NFL, and we see players coming back within a year to join their teams. Aiyuk, however, hasn’t played a single game for the 49ers since his injury in 2024.

In July 2025, the 49ers put him on the PUP (Physically unable to perform) list, and by November, they voided the guaranteed money in his contract for 2026 due to lack of participation. All that drama has continued to get bigger since.

The 49ers are adamant on trading Aiyuk instead of releasing him. Even though he can still be a valuable prospect for several teams, other franchises are hesitant to agree to a trade because they’d have to use draft capital for a player who will eventually be released.

The latest development in the Aiyuk-49ers story is that teams are struggling to get a hold of him. Aiyuk’s antics aren’t sitting well with the fans who recently trashed him on social media.

“Let him rot bro, he deserves 0 respect. Pay him… let his career wither away,” a fan wrote.

“He be out here moving weird. I’m glad the Browns never made that trade and couldn’t get him on that plane,” a fan wrote.

“Because he doesn’t want to go to any other team except Washington LOL,” a fan wrote.

“Dude went off the deep end. I hope he gets help,” a fan wrote.

“He’s basically retired,” a fan wrote.

A young, talented, and healthy player is essentially wasting his prime years. Hopefully, the 49ers and Aiyuk will soon put this saga to an end, and the 28-year-old will get a fresh start elsewhere.

Adam Schefter Says Brandon Aiyuk Won’t Go Back to San Francisco

At this point, it’s tough to imagine Aiyuk ever playing for the 49ers. The tension between them seems to have reached an irreparable stage, and it’s highly unlikely that the star WR will consider representing the franchise.

It’s not a one-sided tension. The 49ers have also had enough of him and his antics. ESPN’s Adam Schefter recently said that they’re ready to move on.

“We know he’s not going to be back in San Francisco, the team is ready to move on from him,” he said. “They’ve advertised, including this weekend, at every turn that they would trade him for whatever they could get back for him.”

Despite their willingness to trade Aiyuk, the 49ers haven’t made any progress in the last few months.
