Jared McCain came to life in the OKC Thunder’s thunderous win over the Minnesota Timberwolves, 116-103, scoring 15 points off the bench. The guard was traded to the OKC Thunder in exchange for a 2026 first-round pick and a few second-round picks during the mid-season trade period. After his 15-point game, Philadelphia 76ers’ fans were upset with the President of basketball operations, Daryl Morey, for the fumble.
After averaging around seven points with the 76ers for the first half of the season, McCain’s production has surged. He is averaging around 10.5 points since joining the Thunder. The California native was shooting 46.5% from the three-point line last month and has shot 41.5% this month.
A clip of McCain’s on-court chemistry with Isaiah Hartenstein was shared on social media, in which the Thunder guard was seen draining three-pointers behind Hartenstein’s screens.
76ers fans took to the comment section to call out Morey for the fumble on McCain, highlighting his potential in clutch situations. A user wrote:
“most obvious game 6 hero, why darryl morey ?”
Another fan criticized the 76ers’ management for giving up a good perimeter shooter for nothing in the deal and wrote:
“Philadelphia. A team that’s basically rebuilding. Had this guy and completely gave him away to the best team in the league. I still can’t believe it”
Another user questioned in a disappointed tone:
“Why did Philly trade this man”
On the other hand, the Thunder fans were happy that they got a reliable shooter in Jared McCain. One explained how the 6-foot-3 guard has impacted the offense and would be a boon in the playoffs, and wrote:
“Finally a reliable shooter for Shai who can space the floor for him. Can’t trust Dort’s moon balls in the playoffs.”
Another praised McCain’s skill to use the screen efficiently and create space for himself to launch his three-pointers. The user wrote:
“McCain using those screens like a literal invisibility cloak”

Morey has earlier been criticized on social media for fumbling the McCain trade. Meanwhile, the Thunder is riding a hot winning streak of eight games and looks to continue the run to enter the playoffs as the top seed. Jared McCain has received a grand welcome to the squad and more playing time to better adapt to the team’s structure.

The OKC Thunder started the season exactly how a defending champion should. Long winning streaks now seem usual for a team that never seems short-handed. The bench has also contributed to the team’s dominant run, amid another MVP-esque season from the superstar Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
