Charlotte Hornets legend Dell Curry was seated courtside for Thursday’s Hornets-Magic game as the team honored him by retiring his jersey at halftime. He was joined by his wife, Nicki Smith, and sons Seth and Steph Curry.
Pictures of them attending Curry’s jersey retirement at Spectrum Center were shared on X and garnered over 200,000 views. The photographs led to much curiosity about Steph Curry’s stepmother.
Not much is known about Nicki Smith, whom Curry married in 2022. Speaking to the Charlotte Observer in 2023, he shared how he met Smith, citing an introduction from his friends.
“I didn’t know what I was gonna do (after the divorce),” Curry said. “I thought about going to the West Coast. I’m like, ‘Nah, I’m not gonna follow my sons. I’m going to stick it out. Hang here.’ And then I had friends who introduced me to my wife now. I’d met her a couple of times. We talked on the phone for a month before I laid eyes on her. I’m like: ‘Oh, I like this girl, man. What’s going on here?’ I wasn’t going to get married again. But life is great right now. It couldn’t be better.”
Curry was previously married to Sonya. They were together for over 30 years before she filed for divorce in June 2021. According to a report from TMZ, both Sonya and Dell accused each other of cheating.
