What Did Miami Heat Trade For Terry Rozier in 2024? Closer Look as Charlotte Hornets Make Amends Amid FBI Investigation

The Charlotte Hornets traded Terry Rozier to the Miami Heat in 2024 in order to sign the veteran Kyle Lowry. The Hornets also received a 2027 lottery-protected pick at that time, but all that turned into a mess soon after, when the guard was found to be involved in an NBA gambling scheme. The two teams have now resolved the dispute.

Rozier underwent an investigation by the league before his trade to the Heat, but no conclusive evidence was found against the point guard. The league decided not to suspend him from playing. However, a text message from his mobile phone to his friend, Deniro Laster, later came to light, in which he informed Laster of his playing status in a March 2023 game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Rozier’s alleged friend sold that information to other betting websites, who attempted to make financial profits out of it. After the information came to light, the NBA decided to take Rozier off the court, and he did not play a game this season.

Now, ESPN analyst Shams Charania reported on X that the Hornets and the Heat have settled the dispute that came up due to the Terry Rozier trade. He wrote:

“The Hornets are sending a 2026 second-round draft pick to the Heat to resolve a dispute over Terry Rozier being under NBA and federal investigations over alleged gambling conspiracy during the Charlotte-Miami Jan. 2024 trade, sources tell ESPN.”

Rozier was arrested the morning after the Heat’s season-opener. He was first put on unpaid leave, but afterwards, an arbitrator ordered that the Heat team management would have to pay the NBA player’s salary.

Even without Terry Rozier, Miami Heat looks for a playoff spot

The Miami Heat is riding a hot 5-game winning streak, even without Terry Rozier on the roster. The team did face some hiccups when Tyler Herro was out of the lineup due to a rib injury, as the Heat is 25-20 without him on the team.

Since Herro returned on February 20, the Heat has lost just two thus far. He is averaging 22.1 points this season, shooting a career-best 50% from the field and 40.2% from deep. He has taken up the heavy lifting in the absence of a guard in Rozier with help from Bam Adebayo and All-Star Norman Powell.

The Heat is placed seventh in the Eastern Conference, with the same record as the sixth-place Orlando Magic. The team will now face the Washington Wizards next, looking to extend the winning run and grab a playoff spot.
