“Way Better Than The Oscars”: Timothee Chalamet Hilariously Compares Academy Awards to Knicks Title Win After Snub

On Saturday, actor Timothée Chalamet celebrated as the New York Knicks won their first NBA title in 53 years. Along with other NYC mainstays like Spike Lee and Ben Stiller, Chalamet left his perch in Madison Square Garden to cheer on the Knicks in their closeout game at Frost Bank Center.

As the “Dune” star took part in the post-game festivities, he let slip a certain comment that caused a stir.

“Way better than the Oscars, baby! Come on, the Knicks are the champions, baby!” Chalamet said.

It’s likely that Chalamet was referring to this year’s Academy Awards. Despite a spirited Oscars campaign by the 30-year-old, he fell short of claiming Best Actor, which was scooped up by Michael B. Jordan. On top of this, Chalamet’s film Marty Supreme was defeated in the Best Picture race by the Leonardo DiCaprio flick One Battle After Another.

If Chalamet felt disappointed on the night of the Oscars this year, he was beside himself with excitement as the Knicks completed a gentleman’s sweep Saturday night. On the heels of their dramatic comeback win in Game 4, the Knicks once again displayed resilience by storming back in the fourth quarter and winning Game 5 94-90.

Jalen Brunson finished with a game-high 45 points en route to winning his first-ever Finals MVP award. His former Villanova teammates also came up big: Mikal Bridges added 14 points on 50.0% FG shooting and Josh Hart came through with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.

“The Knicks Saved the NBA”: Stephen A. Smith Makes Bold Claim After New York Wins Championship in Game 5

On the media side, Stephen A. Smith has made no secret of his Knicks fandom. As fans soaked in the euphoria of the team’s Finals conquest, Smith made a bold claim about the two squads in the championship series.

“Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks saved the NBA tonight with this championship…If San Antonio wins it all, the whole league has to start building around one question: how do you stop the alien, that 7-foot-5 alien from France. But instead, a 6’1 guard not the most explosive athlete…ended up leading his team to the title.”

Smith added that teams will now look to replicate the Knicks’ blueprint for assembling a well-oiled roster, not to mention a coach like Mike Brown who “recognizes the importance of depth.”
