Amidst all the high praise for the New York Knicks as the 2026 NBA champions, the San Antonio Spurs have caught flak for yet again coming up short in crunchtime. In particular, one vital cog of the Spurs rotation is coming under intense fire on social media.
After a costly mistake in the dying seconds of Game 4, De’Aaron Fox couldn’t quite bounce back in the series finale, putting up just seven points on 3-for-15 shooting from the field. This led fans to troll the veteran Spurs guard to no end.
“Knicks MVP right there,” one fan tweeted.
“Yeah man. He needs to be gone by the next season. I guarantee none of his teammates feel fondly of him,” another fan speculated.
“Future pelican,” another fan added.
“Bruh had them two back to back middy pull ups and they both damn near grazed the rim. the basketball was feeling to heavy for him,” one fan pointed out.
“De’Aaron Fox get ready to be bashed for the rest of your life,” another fan said.
“Fox is the most heated man in San Antonio this is worse than when Kawai left the spurs,” another fan claimed.
Heading into Saturday night, Fox averaged 16.0 points on 42.5% FG shooting. His quiet performance in Game 5 did not help the Spurs’ cause, as they ended up shooting just 38.4% from the field and 32.4% from beyond the arc.
The Knicks also struggled to shoot efficiently, but Jalen Brunson once again came up big on the scoring end to help his team seize the lead in the fourth quarter. Brunson was later named Finals MVP.
“Kobe to Wemby’s Shaq”: Analyst Looks to Dylan Harper to Be Spurs’ “Finisher” in Future Seasons
Meanwhile, pundits have given all sorts of opinions on the Spurs’ comeback efforts next season. For analyst Ryan Clark, Dylan Harper is a cornerstone of San Antonio’s future.
“Dylan Harper’s growth will be the most important development in the Spurs next step…The Spurs lacked a finisher on the outside… ie: Brunson. Harper showed that he can be the guy. Give him the [keys]. Kids gonna be a star. He has to be Kobe to Wemby’s Shaq. He’s 1b, from here on!”
In Game 5, Harper led the Spurs with 25 points while also contributing five rebounds, four assists, and one block.
