“They Took Me to Hell”: Allen Iverson Points Out NBA Hypocrisy on Load Management With Brutal Message

Allen Iverson has been a vocal critic of load management in the NBA since the time he was in the league. As another debate has emerged between Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks about his playing time currently, the Answer has chimed in with his opinion on it. Iverson was in constant loggerheads with the NBA over his street-style basketball and absence from practice sessions.

Iverson has been vocal about his belief that players should play maximum games for fans, even if they battle a few injuries. However, in the current format, players are often made to sit out due to minor injuries, while he was questioned for even missing practice sessions.

In a recent Instagram post, he uploaded an old image of himself with a long caption, stating how the league made his life difficult on the issue of load management. He wrote:

“This all hit different for me. LOAD MANAGEMENT?!?!
They took me to hell for allegedly not practicing. Now they crying about the players not playing games.
I played with every injury you could think of, to the point they had to hide my jersey to keep me from playing – TRUE STORY.”

The incident AI highlighted in his caption occurred during the 2001-02 NBA season, when the Philadelphia 76ers could not make it to the second round of the playoffs after a title-contending run the previous season. Following the team’s first-round loss to the Boston Celtics, the media session turned into a rant after reporters brought up a long-debated topic: his absence from practice sessions.

Iverson asked that the media members question his game and not the practice session in a lengthy rant that contained the word “practice” 22 times. Now that the league has opened another similar argument about tanking by teams and Giannis not being allowed to compete freely, even when he is healthy.

Allen Iverson backs Giannis Antetokounmpo for standing up to the Bucks’ management

Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks’ management have been involved in a feud that began during the midseason trade period. He was sidelined due to a knee injury, unhappy with the current roster, and took a hiatus from playing. He returned to the court in March after more than a month but was shut down, citing bone bruises.

It was later reported that Giannis was deliberately being asked not to play in an attempt to tank the team and improve their chances of a top draft pick. However, the Bucks forward revealed the whole ordeal in front of the media and said, “It’s like a slap in my face.”

Giannis’ statement has led the league to investigate the situation and come up with measures to curb tanking practices. Even NBPA backed his stance and issued a statement, calling on the NBA to frame rules against the tanking policy. Moreover, fans have had mixed reactions to Giannis Antetokounmpo’s beef with the front office.
