No. 1 NBA Draft Pick AJ Dybantsa Drops 4-Word Reply for New Teammate Trae Young’s Jersey Comment

BYU Cougars forward AJ Dybantsa was the first overall pick of the 2026 NBA Draft by the Washington Wizards. After over a year of heated debates from onlookers about who should be the top selection, Dybantsa was eventually named and will now prepare for his rookie year. Along with preparing his game for the NBA, Dybantsa will also have to learn from the veterans in his new home.

Among the star veterans that will mentor Dybantsa in the Wizards is four-time NBA All-Star Trae Young. As Dybantsa was selected by Washington, Young immediately went over X/Twitter to welcome Dybantsa. In his message, Young also hinted that they’ll discuss who will wear No. 3 since both have used them. Dybantsa has since responded to this with a four-word reply.

“Say no more brudda,” Dybantsa said.

“Welcome to DC @AJ_Dybantsa !! The story has been written🙏🏽 The City is Ready! We’ll talk about that # soon 😉,” Young previously wrote.

It remains to be seen if Young, who has used No. 3 for all eight of his years in the league, will give it up to Dybantsa. Still, it seems as though Young is excited to take Dybantsa under his wing, given his message. The rookie should fit right in with the Wizards with Young as his floor general and him operating on the wing. Big men like Anthony Davis and Alex Sarr should fill out the front court.

AJ Dybantsa addressed the jersey situation with Trae Young right after he was drafted

In a video uploaded to X/Twitter by Ballislife, AJ Dybantsa was immediately asked about Trae Young’s aforementioned post. At that point, Dybantsa did not know about it, but he did assert that his prior comments about snatching No. 3 from Young were purely just to joke around. The young talent said that he’ll respect whatever decision Young makes since he is the veteran.

“No, he didn’t. He didn’t mention the number, but I don’t have my phone. My dad has it, so I don’t know what’s been going on in social media… Okay. I mean, I was trolling on, whose podcast was it? Gil’s? You know, I’m gonna respect the vets. He is Trae. Trae is three. I was trolling about it, but I mean, if he wants to give me the number, I’ll take the number. But, you know, I was just trolling,” Dybantsa shared. (0:05)
