Across mock drafts, Darius Acuff Jr. is widely projected to be a high lottery pick this year. However, if a new report is to be believed, Acuff’s camp wants the Arkansas guard to land with a certain team in the top 10.
On an episode of “The Kevin O’Connor Show,” NBA insider Kevin O’Connor said the support system of Acuff prefers to see him in a Sacramento Kings jersey this season. O’Connor added that, based on what he’s hearing, the feeling is mutual. He said:
“This isn’t just a one-way street. The Kings also really like Acuff as well and view him as a potential future of the franchise.”
However, some netizens didn’t think too highly of Acuff’s camp reportedly eyeing the Kings as his landing spot.
Ultimately, Acuff’s camp might not have control over his fate as there are six NBA teams picking in the draft before the Kings.
In the latest version of his mock draft earlier this week, O’Connor had Acuff going at No. 5 to the LA Clippers.
“I’m Guarding the Point Guard, Man”: Darius Acuff Tells Draymond Green About His Preferences on Defense
In a clip posted last week, NBA star and podcaster Draymond Green had a conversation with Darius Acuff Jr. regarding defense. Interestingly, Acuff opened up on what he prefers to do on that end of the floor. He said:
“You can ask any of my coaches in college, no matter how many defensive mistakes I made every night, if they tried to put me on a 2 or a 3, I’m like, ‘Man, I’m not guarding No. 3, I play the point man, I’m guarding the point guard’. … We just hooping out here, so I definitely like to guard my matchup.”
It will be interesting to see whether Acuff will have room to negotiate with any of his coaches once he gets up to the next level.
