Stephon Castle’s mom told to take notes from Steph Curry’s mother after ugly record sparks concerns in double OT WCF thriller

Quannette Castle, who is the mother of San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle, was asked to take a page out of the book of Sonya Curry, Steph Curry’s mother. Castle recorded a double-double in the Spurs’ overtime win against the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 1 of the Western Conference finals on Monday.

He finished with 17 points and 11 assists, shooting 5-for-14. Quannette reacted to his performance on X. Fans flooded the comments section, urging her to adopt a similar approach to Sonya Curry after noticing that Castle recorded 11 turnovers in the matchup.

“Mama Castle, you gotta take a page out of Mama Curry and start fining Castle for these turnovers. LET’S GO THOUGH,” a fan wrote.

“I got you … lol… 11 dimes tho ..  We got the win,” Castle replied.

It was revealed in 2015 that Sonya Curry penalized the Golden State Warriors guard whenever he would commit more than three turnovers in a game. Any numbers over that would result in a $100 payout to his mother, as reported by Kurt Helin of NBC Sports.

Addressing the matter in 2022, Curry shared that even though he no longer pays the fines, his mother still calls him out when he has too many turnovers. Fans are urging Quannette Castle to adopt a similar approach after Stephon Castle’s turnover-heavy performance in Game 1 of the WCF.

Stephon Castle is averaging 19.7 points, 6.5 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 12 playoff games this season. He is shooting 47.9%, including 41.1% from 3-point range. His turnover numbers have been a cause for concern, with him committing 3.8 turnovers per game.

Aside from the turnovers, his production has improved in the playoffs, as Castle recorded 16.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 7.4 assists per game in the 2025-26 regular season. This is also an improvement over his rookie season, where he averaged 14.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg and 4.1 apg.

Stephon Castle remains confident of the San Antonio Spurs’ chances against “rolling” OKC Thunder

With the Thunder going 8-0 through their first two playoff series this season, not many teams possess the quality to deal with their momentum. However, second-year guard Stephon Castle is confident of the Spurs’ chances against the reigning champions.

“They’re rolling right now. They’ve won eight straight,” Castle said. “We know it’s going to be tough to knock them off, but I think we’re pretty confident that we can do it.”

Even Victor Wembanyama kept things safe when asked about the Spurs’ conference finals series against the Thunder.

“This is a team that knows how to play basketball. They know their stuff,” Wembanyama said. “We’re going to see. We watched all their games. Scout and execute for Game 1.”

Wembanyama finished Game 1 with 41 points, 24 rebounds, three assists and three blocks, shooting 14-for-25. Castle’s backcourt partner, Dylan Harper, recorded 24 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and seven steals.

After winning Game 1, the Spurs will return to action at Paycom Center on Wednesday for Game 2 against the Thunder.
