LeBron James has yet to decide on his future. While most rumors indicate he might head East to the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, or Philadelphia 76ers, it’s not stopping the Western Conference suitors from pursuing him.
According to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, the Minnesota Timberwolves have continued to pursue James, despite not being among the favorites. On Wednesday, during the latest segment of his podcast, “The Jon Krawczynski show,” the Wolves beat reporter said that the $3.6 billion franchise’s newly traded star LaMelo Ball has also made efforts to push for James.
“Anthony Edwards has been directly involved with LeBron in this process. He’s made phone calls to LeBron,” Krawczyenski said. “LaMelo Ball has had a conversation with LeBron.”
The Timberwolves have been active in pursuing the top names on the market. They showed willingness to acquire LaMelo Ball, trading away one of their best assets in Naz Reid, one unprotected pick, and three first-round pick swaps.
LeBron James won’t cost them as much as a free agent. Reports suggest James isn’t prioritizing money, either. The Timberwolves can sign James to a minimum deal.
NBA analyst says LeBron James should really consider Timberwolves
NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor believes LeBron James should choose the Timberwolves if his goal is to win a championship. Replying to Jon Krawczynski’s video on X, O’Connor said:
“If LeBron cares most about winning another ring, he should choose the Timberwolves. That roster is missing a player like him. Upgrading from Mike Conley to LaMelo Ball and Julius Randle to LeBron James would be insane.”
The Timberwolves parted ways with Julius Randle and Naz Reid via trade, leaving a glaring need for them at the power forward position. James would slot right in as the Randle replacement, which could be a massive upgrade. He can be one of their floor generals, even when off the ball, and provide the locker room leadership needed in the Wolves’ locker room.
The Timberwolves would have multiple defenders around him like Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Rudy Gobert, which would allow James to play his best position on defense as the helper.
While there will be doubts about that team’s ability to beat the OKC Thunder or San Antonio Spurs in a playoff series, the roster balance is as good as anyone, and if they can click, the Timberwolves can make some noise in the West with James.
